After five years of collection and curation This is Design opened on 24 August 2011. The Design Museum is displaying highlights of its collection including the road signs designed by Margaret Calvert and Jock Kinneir in 1965, the K6 telephone kiosk 1951, a quaint and very chunky-looking Apple Mac form 1997, a Moulton bike, circa 1960 and the vacuum cleaner designed by James Dyson.
The exhibition which examines the impact of design on the modern world runs until 22 January 2012.
While you are there have a look at the Kenneth Grange exhibition which is on until 30 October 2011. His prolific career spans over 50 years and he is responsible for designing some of the most iconic and familiar products and appliances that shape our daily lives. Kodak cameras, the silhouette for the Intercity 125 train, the Kenwood food mixers, Parker pens and the re-design of the London black cab are just some of his well-known designs.
