A furniture maker’s life is full of repetition and Max McCance, one of Scotland’s leading furniture designers and makers, has elevated this process to an art form, devoting a 30-year career to making work composed of ever more complex, multiple and layered components, each individually shaped, sanded and finished before assembly. Based in rural northeast Fife, Max works exclusively in solid hardwoods, using natural rubbed oil finishes. If you would like to explore these unusual works further, Max’s workshop and gallery in Kinloch are open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am until 5pm and during the week by appointment.
