Let’s ease our way gently in to Monday morning shall we with this crowd pleasing Joni Mitchell cover by rising Scottish star Siobhan Wilson performing at Roddy Hart’s recent Roaming Roots Revue – a sell out Celtic Connections show Avocado Sweet was lucky enough to attend. The night was a paean to the wordy, gentle and summery sounds of the Laurel Canyon music scene of the 1970s – Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills and Nash, Judee Sill and The Eagles all lived again on a chilly night in Glasgow. While Wilson’s performance was one of the most popular of the night, for me stand outs among many accomplished, if not visceral, performances were Scots Yorkshire folk trio Lau giving a charmingly accented version James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, Californian band Dawes doing a stomping mini set of their own Tom Petty-like songs and Cardiff duo Zervas and Pepper whose Woodstock was probably the best sung tribute of the night.
Here’s Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You sung by Wilson and accompanied by Tommy Reilly.
