Probably not one for the camping purists but pop up tents could be coming to a city roof top near you. This May & June is Brooklyn – New York, August is London and October is Boston. You just sign up for a night in a city and the location will be texted to you the day before. According to the founder, artist and builder, Thomas Stevenson, ‘the tent takes only 2 people, a rubber mallet and 20 minutes to erect. A location can be up and running within two hours including a canteen, kitchen and library.’ But where is the wilderness? The answer is that there is no internet, no electricity and no shower.
However, Bivouac NYC does provide ‘new friends (lots of them), a view, a canteen with a kitchen area, a large communal wooden table, a library and morning coffee.’ Campers are invited to bring one food item to contribute to the communal meal.
In case you are worried about your commute to work Thomas always ensures the rooftop is near a subway station. The assumption is that you will go about your normal routine during the day.
If you have a rooftop in a city and would like Bivouac to pop up on your building then send an email to Thomas.
