Edinburgh-based Joanna Kessel, one of the UK’s foremost mosaic artists, is running a residential mosaic course in Italy from 6 – 13 June. The course teaches you how to design a mosaic, select the appropriate Venetian glass smalti and create your own contemporary piece. Inspiration will be close at hand in nearby Ravenna whose early Christian churches and mosaics have been designated a UNESCO world heritage site. You will be able to visit some of these Byzantine marvels as well as visit a contemporary mosaic studio.
The course is based at Casa Uno, near San Costanzo in Le Marche; a rural family home owned by a Scottish textile artist and her Italian husband. Le Marche is well known for its food and you will be well catered for by their hosts who have developed a passion for sourcing exquisite Italian produce. In the afternoons you can visit a local hill town or the seaside, go for a swim in the pool at Colomboni or simply lounge in the gardens at Casa Uno. There will also be an opportunity to go along to a tasting session at a local wine and olive oil producer and a memorable night out at local restaurant Rolando’s.
Teaching, accommodation and catering costs from £750, travel is not not included. For further information, click here.
