Less than an hour’s drive from Fife is the MHOR Festival which runs this weekend from Friday 26 May to 28 May. Hosted by the very affable Tom Lewis on the land next to one of his two hotels, Monachyle Mhor, the Festival is a mix of very good food, live music, and theatre. The Friday night feast is five courses by five chefs including Chef of the Year, Lorna MacNee from Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles and Rosie Healey, Alchemilla, Glasgow, who started her own restaurant after working for Ottolenghi in London. A camping ticket for the festival is £75 per couple. The hotel and the Mhor furnished Bell Tents are fully booked during the event but both hotels are destinations in themselves and are worth visiting, not just during the festival. If your budget, like ours, doesn’t extend to a room in the more expensive and luxurious Monachyle Mhor then stop for a drink in its cosy, dark panelled bar, and, opt to stay at Tom’s other gaff, the equally stylish diffusion range motel, MHOR 84, instead.
