Molly Erdman reveals the true silliness of the over-decorated interiors styled for magazines and catalogues by writing funny captions and featuring them in her blog Catalog Living. ‘Who actually lives that way?’ was the question asked by Erdman when she was pushed too far by a photo depicting a plate of figs placed under a table. As well as captioning the photographs she created Gary and Elaine, a well-heeled and deeply superficial couple living happily amongst abundantly pillowed chairs, giant abacuses, and decorative fruit.
Since we first featured her blog on Avocado Sweet in 2011, Erdman, an actor living in Los Angeles, has published the blog highlights in her book , Catalog Living at Its Most Absurd: Decorating Takes (Wicker) Balls.

Gary and Elaine’s guests would be angrier about their guest room being outside if they weren’t so preoccupied with trying to figure out what the light fixture was wired to.

Basket Case…

Gary was always amazed how Elaine could so clearly say ‘I don’t care about your sailboat sculpture’ with just a few pairs of sunglasses.
Not Easy Being Green…
Although Gary and Elaine were pleased to be conserving water with their new artificial lawn, they regretted the side effect of it attracting artificial wildlife.
