From the former fisherman’s net loft that is now their studio in Cellardyke, Fife, Kirsty Thomas and her husband Pete are quietly taking over London. Kirsty had been designing as Lovely Pigeon for a number of years before Pete joined the company and they relaunched as Tom Pigeon in September 2014 at London’s Design Junction. Since then there there have been two exciting collaborations with international galleries: with the V&A they are producing a print celebrating the ‘Constable: The Making of a Master’ exhibition and for the Barbican there is a series of prints to tie in with ‘Constructing Worlds; Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age’. Now it’s the turn of the department stores with an exclusive range of foil prints and stationery for Selfridges.
Since Avocado Sweet featured Kirsty, for winning the Create in Fife Award for Best Collaboration for her work with Formica, the practice has also received widespread coverage in the media with features in Red magazine and on well-known design blogs such as Design Milk.
It will be interesting to see where 2015 takes these Cellardyke designers – we’ll keep you posted.
