BROOKLYN tells the moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for New York City. Homesickness quickly diminishes as a romance with an Italian boy develops. Soon, however Eilis’s new life is disrupted by her past, and she must choose between two countries and two lives. This film was a big hit at Sundance this year and looks like it will be just the thing for a dreich winter night when it opens here in November. It was directed by John Crowley and adapted from Colm Toibin’s novel by Nick Hornby. Fancy it? You can find out more here.
