Soon to be an appetising new fixture on the Dunfermline cafe and social scene, the Fire Station Creative cafe will open its doors in June. The cafe will form part of the newly created, terracotta tiled gallery space with an alfresco eating area for when it’s sunny and a cosy stove for chillier days.  Designer Sarah Young has sourced local suppliers and craftsman to create an industrial-chic open plan design using natural materials such as slate and oak and has made clever use of some original fire station fittings such as the stop sign above. Artist and Fire Station Creative founder Ian Moir was busy oiling the solid oak table tops on the day we visited and the cafe’s stylish black chairs had just been delivered.

The cafe, which will be licensed, will be open from 10am until 4pm serving soup, sandwiches and sharing platters, good coffee and cold drinks. Run by a young local chef, it will also host master-classes, tasting events and supper clubs as well as being available for use by anyone hosting an evening event in the gallery.
